A Rocky Mountain School of Dance & Performing Arts, Inc. began attending competitions in 1994. Using competitions as a learning tool to improve the overall training and growth in its dancers, RMSDPA has risen to the top of the competition world proudly being announced as one of the top 50 schools in the nation in 2004 by Dance Spirit Magazine, and taking first overall at national competitions in 2004 - 2010. Competition is only one part of these exceptional programs. Local performances and educational seminars are a very important aspect of the Performance Team programs. Students in these programs also perform at local events and participate in elementary school performances/dance camps where they share their talents with peers and younger children. Being a member of the RMSDPA Mini Company, Petite Company, Peak Performance Team or the Artistic Performance Team programs is an honor that holds high expectations. Students in these programs are expected to maintain a 3.0 GPA at school, learn to be a positive role model for their peers and younger students, and learn to manage their time successfully and become self-confident proud young men and women who believe that they can succeed in any aspect in life.

Artistic Performance Teams: AGES 9 - 18 Placement in the APT program is by audition only. Auditions for the 2011-12 APT season will be held on July 30th, 2011. The audition process is very similar to a regular dance class. Students warm-up, learn a routine in lyrical or jazz and then perform that routine in groups. The audition is designed to be positive and motivational. All dancers auditioning for APT 2011-12 are required to attend the RMSDPA Summer Dance Camp, July 25 – 29th 2011. Choreography for auditions and audition prep classes will be taught at the camp. Students who audition and are accepted into the APT program will be placed in one large company titled APT. From this company, dancers will be selected for routines. Each APT dancer is required to perform in 5 routines. The routines are selected by the Director for each dancer. Routine commitment cards will be given to each APT parent. The cards will allow the parent to determine whether their dancer is allowed to participate in more than 5 routines. Some dancers may only be eligible for 3 routines instead of five. This will be determined by the age and ability of the individual dancer. Class Placement in the APT program is determined by age and ability. All APT dancers train in APT only classes. Because each individual student grows at their own pace, the Director of RMSDPA places each student in the program that will benefit them the most. Some dancers may be asked to cross over age levels due to their high level of ability and previous training.
